David M. Harris, PhD.
David Harris holds an MS in psychology and a Ph.D. in neurophysiology. He has over thirty years experience as Director of Research and Professor of Biology, Psychology, Communicative Disorders, Otolaryngology, Anatomy, Surgery, Oral Biology, and Dentistry at various medical and dental schools, including Northwestern University, University of Illinois Medical Center, Yale University, UCSF, Cal State Hayward. He is currently Senior Research Fellow in Otolaryngology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Harris has expertise in neuroscience, photomedicine and photobiology with over 150 publications in 12 medical specialties. He has chaired 28 Medical / Scientific Conferences and Sessions, and organized over 80 CME training courses for physicians.
Through his consulting firm, Bio-Medical Consultants & Associates, Inc, he has assisted numerous medical device companies to bring their products to market. BMC, Inc. specializes in medical lasers and neurological devices and has experience with the design and conduct of basic science, preclinical animal studies, or clinical trials. Scientist, surgeon, educator and director of a research consulting firm, he is equally at home in the research lab, the OR and clinic, behind the podium, or in industry.
A recent achievement is the patented laser-based treatment for toenail fungus using the PinPointe FootLaser which is enjoying widespread acceptance in the US and Europe.
John A. Burkart, Ph.D., Biostatistician
John A. Burkart is a biostatistician specializing in statistical analysis for medical devices and drugs in the support of new drug and device applications to the FDA. He has been a full time consultant in this area for 25 years. Previous work experience includes Director of Biometrics at the University of Utah Research Institute Biomedical Test Laboratory, where he was involved in evaluation of medical devices, design and maintenance of an environmental chemistry quality control system, evaluation of toxicology experiments, and principal investigator for several occupational epidemiology studies. He also served as Assistant Director of Biometrics at Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceuticals and as a biostatistician at Merck Sharp and Dohme involved in clinical trials. Other current affiliations include Adjunct Professor at the University of Utah Medical School in the divisions of Biostatistics and Occupational and Environmental Health and a member of the advisory committee to the Bradley Free Clinic of Roanoke, VA.
Dr. Burkart holds a doctorate in Biometry from the University of Minnesota plus bachelor and masters degrees in statistics from the University of Iowa. Areas of experience include orthopedic, cardiovascular, audiologic, dermatologic, ocular, dental, and respiratory devices; diagnostic kits; surgical products and procedures; drug delivery systems; veterinary drugs; and psychotropic, anesthetic, renal, analgesic, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral biologic, anti-hypertensive, and endocrine pharmaceuticals.
